Volvo Excavator Has Narrow Escape on Lahinch Beach

The operator was part of a crew working on restoring storm defences on the beach and in the words of a local onlooker “left it a bit late”. After a few nail biting minutes the machine emerged from the sea unharmed and in perfect working order.

So how did this excavator not break down or have any operational issues?

Tracks and Undercarriage

The reinforced idler frame, track links and bottom rollers are built to withstand tougher conditions for improved durability and reliability in demanding applications. These machines feature reinforced track links for increased durability in tough working conditions.

Each track is powered by an automatic two-speed shift travel motor. The track brakes are multi-disc, spring-applied and hydraulic released. The travel motor, brake and planetary gears are well protected within the track frame and the undercarriage has a robust X-shaped frame with greased and sealed track chains as standard.

Even though this machine is strong, tough and powerful, we still wouldn't recommend taking your excavator for a dip in the ocean!
